After the staggering scenes of the pandemic and crypto boom, we thought our woes were over, but now it seems crypto mining is hitting CPUs. Crypto always seems to be on a rollercoaster of popularity and pricing but once again it seems to be on the rise and so those seeking a profit are looking to PC parts once again.
It’s only been a few years since we saw when GPUs got very expensive, as the prices flew sky high alongside the release of popular RTX 30 series graphics cards. The best GPUs of the time were hard to find let alone at the recommended price. As scalpers and the pandemic caused shortages and popularity soared the GPUs were used to mine crypto. But now it seems the best CPUs are being used instead.

Ryzen 9 7950X sold out and tops mining charts
As WCCFTech reports, it is particularly the top end of AMD’s Zen 4 that is leading the way in power and performance. As Bitcoin reaches above $60K market value it seems crypto is making a comeback so it’s not a surprise some are looking to make some money on the trend and dust off the old mining systems.
However, instead of the GPUs, it’s the top CPUs making the most money. The Ryzen 9 7950X is the top contender for profitability for particular coins. Due to the AVX2 and AVX512 instructions on the architecture, that makes it a breeze to mine Qubic specifically. With that and the energy efficiency of running the processor at lower power the profit for 24 hours even reaches $2.98.
Due to running much less power and costing less to run the 7950X even beats out the best RTX 4090 in mining different coins. As that graphics card only reaches a max profit of $1.7-$1.9 in a 24 hour period. That’s also considering the GPU costs nearly three times as much and with nearly four times higher power draw.
Due to all of this, the RX 7950X has been out of stock and hard to find as it is being taken up for Qubic mining.
